Today Rebecca and I took our third childbirth class. In this one we learned about the labor and delivery process in detail and watched a video of about 8 different births.
I learned a couple of things watching the video. First, natural childbirth is certainly possible, though not always pleasant. Second, the father plays an important supporting role. Third, growing a mustache might be a good idea.
The instructor never explicitly told us that growing a mustache is a requirement, but being a keen observer, I noted that 6 out of the 8 fathers portrayed in the video had mustaches. Coincidence? I'm not so sure. Granted, the video was on a VHS tape apparently recorded sometime in the early 80's, but perhaps a mustache provides some sort of comfort to a laboring mother, a nervous father, and possibly even the hospital staff.
Regardless, when it comes time to discuss a birth plan with our obstetrician, I'll find out if growing a mustache should be part of the plan. It's the least I can do.
